One of the not so great parts of virtual school is not being able to do all the traditions of each grade. Nicholas is in Kindergarten this year and one of the Christmas traditions in Kindergarten is making Gingerbread Ornaments in school. His teacher sent on the recipe and suggested we give them a try. They aren't really gingerbread, it's a dough made with cinnamon, applesauce, and glue. These were very easy to mix up and the dough was easy to roll out. We let them dry for a week on parch2ment paper then moved them to a rack so the tops and bottoms would both dry out. Bernard ate one because he's Bernard... dumb dog... clearly they smelled delicious to him! It sure makes our tree smell a whole lot like Christmas. I'm glad Nicholas got to have this little piece of fun from in-person Kindergarten.
Gingerbread Ornament Recipe
1 cup Cinnamon
1 cup Applesauce
2 tablespoons White Glue
Stir all ingredients well with a wooden spoon
Roll out the dough and cut into a gingerbread man or any shape desired
While wet, make a small hole at the top (this will be used to string it when dry)
Let dry on wax paper or a paper plate
NOTES: If dough is rolled too thin it may crack. While dough is
wet glitter can be added if desired.
