We've had a few snows this winter (yes it's Feb 2 as of this writing) and last weekend was our biggest in quite a while. We even got the snowblower out and moved a lot of snow, 10+ inches of it. Meanwhile the kids were in their glory, they love snow! Snow forts, snow balls, sledding, and especially, eating it. For quite a few years I've watched people in my Facebook feed making snow ice cream at the first snow, a family tradition. This wasn't one of my traditions growing up, we ate real ice cream, thank you very much. But... I figured why not. I knew the snow was coming so I bought a can of sweetened condensed milk and tossed it in the fridge. After warming up with fresh homemade pizzas for lunch after our morning of romping and cleaning up the snow, we grabbed 12 cups of freshly preserved snow from the table on the deck and started stirring. It was a little arm work out but we got it all mixed in. I put a few chocolate chips on top instead of sprinkles, the kids would have rather had the sprinkles, oops. But it was oddly good. Even Andy had seconds. I'm pretty sure I'll keep a can of milk in the cabinet in case of any more random snow storms.
Easy Snow Ice Cream
10-12 cups Fresh snow
1 tsp Vanilla extract
1 can Sweetened Condensed milk 14 oz. can
1/2 cup Mini chocolate chips (Optional)
2 tbsp Sprinkles (Optional – unless you are my kids… then required)
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, add fresh snow, vanilla extract and condensed milk and mix with a large wooden spoon until fully-combined. You need to put some energy into it.
If the ice cream consistency is too thin, add more snow to thicken it. If the ice cream consistency is too thick, add more condensed milk to thin it out.
Optional- Stir in mini chocolate chips and toss some sprinkles on top and enjoy.
