Brownies and chocolate chip together in one bar? Please and thank you.

I’ve wanted to make Bookies for a long time. Once upon a time I made them in cookie form – I’m sure that recipe is here somewhere and it’s missing a picture – Thanks Google! But Brookies in bar form? Oh my yes. Brookies are Chocolate Chip Cookies and Brownies – together. I tweaked this recipe a tad. I did not have self-rising flour, maybe I did, but I didn’t feel like using it, so I added some salt and baking soda to the mix. The original recipe called for all this swirling and weirdness.. no thanks. I scooped the cookie dough out into my pan then poured the brownie batter all in the cracks and crevasses. These are so good. I brought them to work on a Monday where we had a few inches of snow – the roads weren’t plowed and everyone had a lousy commute… One of my coworkers said this “You really knocked this one out of the park. They are Outstanding!” Well wow – that’s a good review. These are delicious. My family would be a big no on these – too much chocolate, but yes… give me all the brownies and chocolate chip goodness together in one bar. Please and thank you.

Chocolate Chip Brookies

Cookies:
1/2 cup butter softened
1/2 cup light brown sugar (packed)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/4 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup chocolate chips

Brownies:
18 oz boxed brownie mix, prepared as directed
1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Additional chocolate chips on top, if desired

Instructions
Combine softened, unsalted butter with light brown sugar, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract in a large mixing bowl. Use an electric mixer and mix until creamy and smooth.
Slowly begin adding flour, salt, and baking soda to mixture 1/2 batch at a time until well incorporated.
Stir in chocolate chips and refrigerate cookie dough while you prepare your brownie batter.
Prepare boxed brownie mix according to package directions, subbing milk for water, and adding chocolate chips to batter, if desired.
Using a medium cookie scoop, add cookie dough to 9x13 pan spayed with non stick spray.
Pour brownie batter in and around cookie dough.
Bake in the oven at 325 for 40-45 minutes. It’s okay if the brookies are still slightly gooey in the center, they will continue to cook as they cool.
Remove brookies from oven and if desired, top with additional chocolate chips. Let cool for 30 minutes before cutting with this knife and enjoy!
