Don't Feed the Dog - He Likes It!

Ever have those foods that you never actually make, but you often hope other people bring?  Puppy Chow is one of those things for me. Not sure why I never thought to make it, but I sure didn’t – until last weekend.  We were heading for a weekend in Davenport to have a belated Christmas with our Iowa family and Puppy Chow seemed like the perfect treat to make.  Just to be clear, I’m talking about the sweet treat made from cereal, peanut butter, chocolate and powdered sugar, not food you’d feed to an actual puppy.
This recipe is amazingly simple and quick.  I’m not sure why I thought it would be more difficult – it sure wasn’t.  A minute in the microwave, some mixing (and cereal all over the counter and floor), then shaking in bags.  Toss it out on some wax paper or aluminum foil to harden and there you go!  Enjoy this easy one… you probably have made it a million times – kudos to you! :)

Puppy Chow
What you need!
9 cups Combination of Corn, and Rice Cereal squares (Chex)
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1/4 cup butter
2 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 1-gallon ziplock bags

Make it!
Place cereal in a large bowl and set aside. In a medium microwavable bowl, add chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter. Microwave on High for 1 minute and stir. Microwave 30 seconds longer and stir mixture until smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour sauce over cereal and stir until evenly coated. Spoon half of the mixture in each 1-gallon resealable ziplock bag. Add 3/4 cup powdered sugar to each bag, and seal. Shake the bag until everything is coated. Spread on waxed/parchment paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.
