Signing up to bring snack gives me an excuse to make new and fun things, like these Dirt Cake Cookies. Did you every have a Dirt Cake when you were a kid? Probably some 35-40 years ago (holy crap I'm old) I remember going to my Grandma's house and there was a flower pot with dirt, gummy worms and fake flowers - then my aunt was using a shovel and putting dirt on people's plates! What on earth!? It was Dirt Cake! Make with crushed Oreos and chocolate pudding. Months later we were at the same Grandma's and the same aunt brought in another bucket of dirt and I was so excited... but that time it was just dirt. How disappointing. This recipe we ended up doubling to make sure we had enough to feed hungry kids. I added a gummy worm as a ohmage to my aunt and her flower pot of dirt all those many years ago. I will say the crushed Oreos ended up all over church - they did not stay on top of the cookies too well - but they were delicious and that counts for something!
