Frozen Blocks + Crock Pot = Ham Goodness

Remember all that chicken broth we made? Some of you – yes you Leah – asked what the heck we do with all of that? Ham Chowder Soup is just one of those things. We came upon this recipe one night when we were hunting for something to make in the crockpot for the next evening’s dinner. The cook time said 6 hours. Well… we are at work generally FAR longer than 6 hours. :) Rather than using canned chicken broth, we used frozen blocks and a frozen block of ham, set it and forgot it. I did post a picture to Facebook from my phone… something about – here’s hoping this turns out.
What came from those frozen blocks and freeze dried potatoes – was delicious and hearty. So good. Great for left overs and lunches. Enjoy this one. It’s easy and certainly a keeper.

Ham Chowder Soup
What you need!
1 box Au Gratin Potatoes or Scalloped Potatoes (with Seasoning Packet)
4 stalks Celery, diced
2 Onions, chopped
4 Carrots, chopped
4 cloves Garlic, minced
1 cup Diced Precooked Ham
4 cups Chicken Broth
1 dash Black Pepper
⅓ cups Flour
2 cups Milk

Make it!
Combine the uncooked potatoes, seasoning packet, veggies, ham, chicken broth, and pepper in your crock pot. Cook on low for about 6 hours (or on high for about 3 hours). There is some flexibility here, you just need to make sure the potatoes are soft. Whisk the four and the milk together in a bowl and add to the crock pot. Cook an additional 30 minutes on high, stirring occasionally.
