Boy scout I am not, fire making is not one of my strong suits. I sure try hard - but for some reason I'm just not that great at making a fire. Andy isn't the best at it either but we are stepping up our game with fire making. Fire starters! I remember when I was a kid my parents would collect pinecones from our pine trees, sit them in a muffin wrapper with a wick. They'd use these to start fires in the fireplace. This is not what I made. Our boys group at church was making firestarters and I did my best to copy what they did.
First we stole some sawdust from church. You see - I have no good source for sawdust anymore, so sneaking into the vacuum in the boys work shop at church was the answer. We also have dryer link and shredded newspaper. Layered all those things on card board egg cartons. We have LOADS of those. I topped that all off with a pound of paraffin wax. Should I have used more? Probably. But did you know that you can't melt paraffin wax in the microwave? News you can use... I used a double boiler on the stovetop and ladled it in the best I could.
Will the work? Of course! Let's go camping and start a fire!!
