The Curse of the Scorched Crock Pot

Ever walk into your house after your crock pot has been cooking all day to find it’s scorched and oh, the sadness in your heart!  Frustratingly this pulled pork did that to us.  We’ve used this recipe before and had no issues.  It comes from my good friend Leah and always worked before.  Ironically enough, she made it the same week and it turned out perfectly.   So I’m pretty sure the problem with this recipe?  Me.  We were able to salvage some from the center and as always – it was good.  Andy kept picking at it and eating more – so you can tell he wasn’t too phased by the char.
Give this one a try – but if you are worried about the 12-20 hours?  Keep an eye on it and you’ll be just fine.

Leah’s Pulled Pork
What you need!
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoon garlic salt
2 tablespoon onion powder
2 tablespoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (this was a full tablespoon - I'm a wimp)
2 teaspoon black pepper
2-6 lb pork butt/shoulder

Make it!
Mix dry ingredients. Rinse pork & poke w/ knife over the whole surface.
Coat thickly with rub. Cover & refrigerate 8 - 24 hours.
Place pork in crockpot on low for 12-20 hours. Or cook uncovered 6 hours @ 300.
