Unitaskers Unite!

In the grand ol' world of healthier eating - french fries get a REALLY bad rap - with good reason. But imagine a world where you could eat delicious fresh french fries that don't clog your arteries? Well, we live in such a world - at least you do if you have an air fryer and maybe a french fry cutter. Yes - a french fry cutter - could Alton Brown be more disappointment in our unitasker? Well, it was a gift - so there.
Anyway... we were going to have hamburgers for dinner and what goes better with burgers than french fries. It took some effort on the fry cutter... oh man.. an entire potato does NOT work in there. Maybe if we had the industrial size one like Andy wanted. I still remember In and Out in California had one of these mounted above the oil fryer and would stick a potato in and out dropped a bunch of potato sticks directly into the fryer. It sounds a little terrifying - but delicious! Well - this wasn't as effective - but they were SO good. I cut the spud in half - sent it through the cutter, seasoned the fries, added a touch of oil. The first layer I did very carefully in the air fryer... I think future use I can load it up and keep on shaking - they'll get crispy and delicious. We ate ALL of the fries. All of them. They were amazing. I can't wait to make them again. In fact, I had the air fryer on the counter ready to get put away but I'm thinking maybe we make more fries! Can we take it camping? Sure!! Sounds fun to me!
Note: We were also planning to make sweet potato fries but I was too tired that night - but when I cut them to boil the next night - whoa mama those were some tough spuds... not sure if they'll go through my cuter... only one way to find out!

Air Fryer French Fries
nonstick spray
1 medium potatoes, 6 oz, yukon gold or russet, washed and dried
1 teaspoon olive oil
1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
fresh cracked black pepper, to taste
grated Parmesan cheese, optional

Preheat the air fryer 380°F.
Cut the potato lengthwise into 1/4 inch thin slices; then cut each slice into 1/4 inch fries. (A mandolin is helpful here).
In a medium bowl toss the potatoes and oil. Season with salt, garlic powder and black pepper to taste; toss to coat.
Place the potatoes in the basket in an even layer without overlapping or crowding, cook the potatoes 12 to 15 minutes, turning halfway until crisp.
