Brown sugar can just walk on by....

"Let's bake cookies!"
"Ok - what should we make?"
"Sugar cookies with chocolate chips."
"So... chocolate chip cookies?"
"No, sugar cookies with chocolate chips"
Right... um... I've been down this road before... people will say "I like it but it doesn't taste like a chocolate chip cookie" - that's because it's NOT! It's a sugar cookie... with some chocolate in it... Well, Bronwyn let's do it! I found a recipe - it looked ok, she looked it over and approved - so off to the races!! The kids even picked baking these cookies over going to the park. The PARK people... High praise for kids who have been cooped up all winter.
These came up soft and delicious, and not like chocolate chip cookies.
Andy said, "I like them, but I like regular chocolate chip cookies better." Sigh. Honestly.
Bronwyn has asked for them in her lunch, for dessert after dinner, for an any time snack - I think it's fair to say she's happy with them just the way they are.
Oh and Andy, I see you sneaking them out of the container... I think you like them just as they are.

1 cup vegetable or canola oil
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
2 large eggs

1 tsp. cream of tartar
2 cups mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 cups regular semi-sweet chocolate chips

In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter, oil, and sugars until combined.
Beat in eggs and vanilla.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar.
In two additions, add flour mixture to the butter mixture, beating until just combined. Do not overmix. Dough will be kinda fluffy and light!
Fold in all chocolate chips.
Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto baking sheets.
Bake at 375 for 8-11 minutes, or until edges and bottoms are lightly browned.
Remove to wire racks to cool.
